Maryland is an amazing state with rich colonial roots and over 250 years of traditions. It was named after King Charles I wife, Henrietta Maria, and officially became the 7th state in 1788 with the Capital in Baltimore. A few years later the Capital city was changed to Annapolis. Maryland was dubbed the “Old Line State” in 1776, when General Smallwood’s Colonial Army created a defensive “Maryland Line” while fighting British troops in the Battle of Long Island.
